We are deeply grateful to the thousands of donors who have built the Berrien Community Foundation since its inception in 1952. Their gifts, ranging from a few dollars to millions, work to improve the quality of life in Berrien County today and for generations to come.

Donor Bill of Rights

v   To be informed of the Foundation’s mission, of the way it intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes

v   To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities

v   To have access to the Foundation’s most recent financial statements 

v   To be assured that their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given

v   To receive appropriate and timely acknowledgement and recognition

v   To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and confidentiality

v   To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature

v   To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization, or hired solicitors

v   To have the opportunity to delete their names from Foundation mailing lists, and to be assured that donor lists will not be sold, rented or exchanged

v   To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers
