Michigan Community Foundation Tax Credit

A taxpayer who provides a contribution to a Berrien Community Foundation endowment fund will find that the gift can be worth almost three times its actual out-of-pocket cost!  This astonishing benefit comes to the citizens of Michigan by virtue of Michigan's Tax Credit for Community Foundations. Click on the Tax Credit Brochure for additional information on how to give. For a list of funds, click on Eligible Funds. Please note that you can best support the general grantmaking of the Foundation via the Berrien Community Endowment.

          The Heart of Cook Foundation

The Berrien Community Foundation accepted applications on behalf

of I & M's Heart of Cook Foundation through  February 11, 2008.

The Heart of Cook Foundation Grant Review Committee met to review the applications in March.

Applicant organizations were notified by letter in early April whether or not grants were awarded.

For those organizations receiving grants, a reception was held in May where the grants were distributed.

This will be updated for any future grant cycles.

The mission of the Berrien Community Foundation is to promote philanthropy, to build a spirit of community, and to enhance the quality of life in Berrien County through its stewardship of permanently endowed and other funds.

We shall accomplish our mission by:

*  Building permanent endowments and other funds and providing a broad range of flexible and cost-effective donor services

*  Investing and managing funds prudently and professionally

*  Making grants to support a broad range of projects and programs that address community needs, with a focus on building a spirit of community/arts & culture, nurturing our children, and youth development and leadership

*  Serving as a facilitative leader, catalyst, and resource for our communities

Giving through the Berrien Community Foundation provides donors with the true joy of being philanthropists. That joy is the essence of the Berrien Community Foundation.
