The Berrien County Parks team strives to construct the premier, accessible, destination playground at Silver Beach County Park, welcoming all visitors to play and continue to create lifelong memories on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The current playground at Silver Beach County Park is over 30 years old and is showing wear and tear, fading, and the equipment is in need of more frequent repairs each year. Besides the aging factor, there are many new playground features that were not available 30 years ago. The new playground will invite all visitors to come and play without barriers or limitations. Plans for the improved playground exceed Americans with Disabilities Act standards and incorporates Universal Access Design features throughout. The playground will also empower the aging population to play alongside their children and grandchildren at the beach, permitting people of all ages to reap the benefits of being active in our community.

In Spring 2023, Berrien County Parks received a Michigan Department of Natural Resources SPARK Grant for $850,000 to go toward the Silver Beach Playground project. Berrien County Parks is working to raise the remaining funds needed to complete the project. Tax-deductible donations can be made through the Berrien Community Foundation by clicking here or by selecting the donate buttons provided at the top and bottom of this page.

County park staff anticipates project construction to begin in Fall 2024 and be completed by Summer 2025. For current Silver Beach Playground project and fundraising updates, please reach out to Berrien County Parks by calling 269-983-7111 x8234.
