The BIG IDEA Grant opportunity aims to fund creative and innovative programs that can significantly and positively impact life in Berrien County. Proposals should demonstrate innovation, vision and a plan for sustainability to ensure long-term benefits for the community.

Each year, the Upton Foundation awards one $50,000 grant and one $25,000 grant to nonprofit organizations serving Berrien County whose program or new idea is making a positive impact in a big way. Additional BIG IDEAS could receive grants in lesser amounts.

BIG IDEAS are programs that:

  • Ideally utilize collaborations with multiple agencies to maximize impact and resources.
  • Positively transforms the community when the BIG IDEA succeeds.
  • Are innovative.
  • Bring new value or impact if the proposal is for a program expansion.

This funding opportunity is open to 501(c)3 nonprofit agencies, schools, religious organizations doing community work and government organizations. After reviewing all letters of intent, Upton Foundation trustees will select organizations to receive a full grant application after which the top picks will present to the Upton board in July.
