What could $500 add to a student’s school day? A hands-on maple syrup lesson, new classroom technology, a cozy reading corner or an art project might be just the beginning.
Berrien Community Foundation (BCF) is now accepting applications for its Golden Acorn Classroom Mini Grants, offering up to $500 to Berrien County teachers and other school professionals for creative classroom and school projects. Applications are due October 1, 2026.
The grants are designed for those ideas that can make learning more engaging but may not fit into a school’s regular classroom budget.
“Small investments can make a big difference in the classroom,” said Lisa Cripps-Downey, BCF president. “These grants give educators the flexibility to try new ideas and create learning opportunities that students will remember.”
Recent Golden Acorn grants show just how many forms creative teaching can take. At Brandywine’s Merrit Elementary School, the “When I Grow Up” Early Career Exploration program helps young students explore future careers through purposeful play. At Coloma Community Schools, GACMG grants are helping to build a classroom library at Coloma Elementary and to support the Junior High Robotics program. Each year, $10,000 in grant funding is awarded to bring educator-led projects to life in schools throughout Berrien County.
