Quini performing on stage Tell me an interesting/fun/cool fact about yourself.

The fact that I'm a hugger is a trait I was born with. My nickname as a baby was Sugar-Mama because I would smile and hug and try to kiss any stranger that picked me up or came into my line of sight. When upset, my Grandma would tell people "Just give her some sugar (meaning kisses) and she'll calm down." I've thankfully found other ways as an adult to show my appreciation as well as overcome daily stress but "this is Quini...she's a hugger" is usually how I'm introduced to people.

Give me a snapshot of your work history.

I come to Berrien Community Foundation after several years at Whirlpool Corporation, where I worked in customer service and escalated support, handling complex calls and developing a reputation for resolving difficult situations with patience and precision. That role sharpened my ability to listen carefully, communicate clearly and stay calm under pressure. Prior to Whirlpool, I spent years cultivating skills across multiple industries. I've worked in roles that required event coordination, team leadership and community engagement. I've run youth programs for multiple churches, designing activities and creating safe spaces for young people to grow and express themselves. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how to connect with students and families—something I carry into my scholarship work. I'm currently completing my associate's degree in secondary education, with only six credits remaining. My long-term goal has always been to help young people access opportunities they didn't know existed—and to be the person who informs them, equips them and then steps back and says "go."

Selfie of QuiniWhat is it that is you do here at BCF?

As the Scholarship Coordinator, I assist with the foundation's scholarship program by helping students across Berrien County access educational opportunities. Half of my role is development - creating and supporting fundraising initiatives that sustain BCF for years to come.

How do you get involved in the community?

I've always believed that the best way to know a community is to show up and participate. For me, that's meant performing in local theatre. I've been in productions at Lake Michigan College and Twin City Players, as well as random seasonal events throughout the county. Whether it's singing, dancing, poetry or improv, I have always felt  at home on the stage.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I've competed on billiards teams in my past, one of which made it all the way to Vegas. I'm not sure I helped achieve this goal, but every team needs a mascot and on my good days I'm a pretty good shot! Nowadays I'm an avid reader of fantasy fiction novels. I love reading stories where young people discover they have some superpower or magical trait that they've been suppressing and now must learn to control and yield. I'm so glad that my career now reflects this obsession.

What kinds of activities energize you?

My latest endeavor is joining Gut Instinct, an improv group that performs locally. I leave every practice session of games feeling revitalized. So in short, other people's energy is where I draw mine from. Not as a drain but as a match and elevate mode.

What’s something you’ve done, but you’ll never do again?

Skydiving! I made it all the way to the ground with my wig still on and my fake lashes in place. I laughed the whole way and so I can say that was an absolute success with no need to do it any better than I already have.

What’s your favorite place to eat around here?

My favorite meal is the Shrimp Fettuccini (plus crispy chicken) from Applebee's. Whenever it's time to reward myself, I head to Applebee's.

What is the one thing you cannot resist?

The one thing I cannot resist is motivated children. No one knows their capabilities, not even them! To be present the moment they discover a new talent or interest or break free from some irrational fear that's been holding them back is a blessing we should all try to cultivate more. It's a literal game changer!

What’s one of your favorite parts of your job? What makes you excited to work at BCF?

My favorite part of my new job is the chance to combine the empowering of the youth with the concept of giving back. I'm excited to meet our many donors but am ecstatic to create junior donors that will one day fund the future!
