Mainstage Concert Series
Description
The SMSO is proud to present our Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra (LMYO); young student musicians performing in the spring and fall. LMYO members have the opportunity each year to perform side-by-side with our professional SMSO musicians at a special concert during the SMSO’s Mainstage Season. Preparation for this concert allows students to work alongside professional musicians who offer mentorship and provide feedback, culminating in a spectacular performance for our community. LMYO members receive training and guidance from our outstanding LMYO conductors over the course of ten-week blocks of rehearsals and tutoring each season at local area schools.
SMSO 4UR Schools is an opportunity for local students to attend a concert for free and bring an accompanying adult at a reduced ticket rate. Information is handed out at area schools before each concert during the Mainstage Season.
Pop-Up Concerts are held at local public venues during the summer. These events are free to the public and feature soloists, duos, and small ensembles of our orchestra members. Different styles of music are presented to the community including musical storytelling, classical pieces, and much more. This is a wonderful, free opportunity to share our love of the Arts.
Symphony on the Water's Edge is a series of concerts during the summer next to beautiful Lake Michigan. These concerts create local jobs, offer volunteer opportunities, and bring to the community an assortment of popular music including our annual 4th of July concert synced to the fireworks display.
Our Mainstage Concert Series features beautiful classical music and an annual holiday concert to help spread the love of the Arts. Mainstage season runs October through May.
